The North Carolina Democratic Party Welcomes President Biden to Raleigh As Part of “National Month of Action”

Today, President Joe Biden is visiting Raleigh in an effort to encourage more North Carolinians to get vaccinated. The visit is part of the Biden-Harris administration’s National Month of Action, a nationwide effort to reach the President’s goal of getting 70 percent of American adults partially vaccinated by July 4th. As of this week, 55 percent of North Carolinians are partially vaccinated. EPA Administrator Michael Regan visited Raleigh and Charlotte last week as part of the administration’s efforts to boost vaccinations in North Carolina.

Governor Roy Cooper also recently announced a $4 million Summer Cash and College Tuition lottery, which will award $1 million prizes for four North Carolinians and $125,000 scholarships for four North Carolina students aged 12-17, to encourage and thank people across the state for getting vaccinated.

“We want to get as many North Carolinians vaccinated as possible and we know there’s a lot more to do,” said Governor Roy Cooper. “I appreciate President Biden’s leadership and his visit to North Carolina today to assist our vaccination efforts and help our state put this pandemic behind us for good.”

“We’re extremely grateful to President Biden for visiting Raleigh today to help encourage more North Carolinians to get vaccinated so we can all do our part to defeat COVID-19. It’s undeniable that the President’s leadership has gotten the pandemic under control and played a huge role in helping get North Carolina back on track. Getting shots in arms has led to the reopening of schools and small businesses, but there’s still work to be done. All North Carolinians must do their part and get vaccinated, and if you already are vaccinated, let’s make sure our friends and family are, too,” said NCDP Chairwoman Bobbie Richardson.

“President Biden delivered on his promise to get shots in arms and save lives. As a mother and a grandmother, I can’t express how much the COVID-19 vaccine means to me,” said Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12). “It means my daughter can see her elementary school students in person. It means my grandchildren can continue their education. And it means all of my loved ones have the peace of mind to know that I’ll still be around to love and care for them well into the future. Thank you, Mr. President, for the shot in the arm we needed to build back better.”

“We are honored to have President Biden in Raleigh today as he continues his push to get all eligible North Carolinians and Americans vaccinated against COVID-19,” said Congressman G.K. Butterfield (NC-01). “President Biden and his administration have demonstrated true leadership in quickly and effectively distributing vaccines throughout the country and getting over 300 million shots in arms in just 150 days. I commend him for his focus and attention to minority and underserved communities to reduce health disparities and ensure these communities have the resources and information they need to boost vaccinations. President Biden is leading North Carolina and our country out of the dark days of the pandemic.”

“I’m thrilled that President Biden is visiting North Carolina this week to encourage more North Carolinians to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Thanks to the American Rescue Plan, we’re getting vaccines to communities, reopening our economy, and visiting our loved ones safely. To beat COVID-19 and continue building back stronger and more equitably than before, we must ensure all North Carolinians get vaccinated,” said Congresswoman Kathy Manning (NC-06).

“From day one, President Biden has worked tirelessly to put us on a firm path to an equitable recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. The key to that recovery is mobilizing all Americans to get vaccinated, and I welcome President Biden to Raleigh to encourage everyone to find their shot,” said Congressman David Price (NC-04).

“I’m thrilled President Biden is visiting Raleigh to encourage North Carolinians to get their vaccine. In order to combat the virus and save lives, it’s crucial that everyone gets vaccinated,” said Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02). “Thanks to the President’s leadership and the American Rescue Plan, billions of dollars in additional funding went toward vaccine distribution so we could get schools reopened, our businesses and economy back on track, and enable families to be together again. I look forward to working with the President to advance his agenda in Congress so our country can fully recover from the pandemic and reemerge stronger than ever.”

The National Month of Action will boost vaccination rates in North Carolina and across the country through the following initiatives:

  • Making it easier to get vaccinated and advancing equity:
    • Free childcare for individuals getting vaccinated.
    • Extended hours at pharmacies across the country every Friday in June to offer more flexible appointment availability.
  • Mobilizing the country to do more vaccination education and outreach:
    • Community canvassing, phone banking, text banking, and vaccination efforts.
    • “We Can Do This” national vaccination tour.
    • Mayors challenge to increase vaccination rates in cities across America.
    • Shots at the shop –– a new initiative to engage Black-owned barbershops and beauty salons.
    • Blanketing local TV and radio and social media to get Americans the facts and answer their questions.
    • Covid-19 college challenge.
  • Incentivizing vaccinations:
    • Business incentives for vaccinated Americans.
