On ACA Anniversary, NCDP Calls Out GOP Efforts to Overturn Law

Thanks to President Biden and Democrats’ American Rescue Plan – and no thanks to a single Republican – over 670,000 North Carolinians are now seeing reduced health care costs

On the twelfth anniversary of the Affordable Care Act, North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Bobbie Richardson released the following statement:

“Twelve years ago, President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law, helping hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians access the healthcare they need. Now, President Biden has built upon the progress made by the Affordable Care Act by passing the American Rescue Plan, which reduced premiums by forty percent and increased health care coverage in North Carolina by twenty-five percent

“Meanwhile, the Republican Party has spent the past twelve years doubling down on their agenda of tax hikes, raised premiums, and eliminating coverage. In recent weeks alone, Republican Senator Ron Johnson confirmed that Republicans still want to repeal the Affordable Care Act. The party has also united behind Florida Senator and National Republican Senatorial Committee Chair Rick Scott’s plan to raise taxes on nearly 40 percent of North Carolinians.

“Over the past twelve years, it’s been made clear that Democrats are fighting to protect and improve North Carolinians health care. This November, we’ll continue electing Democrats across the state who are committed to doing the same.”
