NCDP Statement On NCGA Republican’s Tax Plan

Today, North Carolina Republicans unveiled a tax plan that would completely eliminate the corporate income tax by 2028. North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Bobbie Richardson released the following statement in response:

“After a year where we saw inequities exposed and exacerbated, North Carolina Republicans in the General Assembly are still prioritizing the wealthy and big corporations, while income inequality rises and public education — one of the most powerful drivers of our economic future — suffers. Coming out of the pandemic that hit some people harder than others, we have the opportunity for a once-in-a-generation investment in our schools, workforce, infrastructure, and families that lays the foundation for a century of prosperity for all North Carolinians.”

For North Carolinians, this is all of too familiar. The Republican General Assembly has repeatedly put power politics, corporations, and wealthy donors before the best interests of North Carolina’s schools, infrastructure, and workforce. That has led to a permanent drain on the state’s ability to meet the needs of the people.
