After Years of Anti-Choice Policies, NC GOP Now Calls High Ranking Republican’s Abortion a “Personal Matter”

Raleigh, NC – Today, the North Carolina Republican Party declined to comment on the recently discovered statement from 2012 where Lt. Governor Mark Robinson, the highest-ranking North Carolina Republican, said he paid for a partner to have an abortion. The Republican Party, whose platform includes anti-choice policies that would limit abortion access, is now calling the issue a “personal matter” that they won’t weigh in on.

“Everyone needs access to abortion, even Mark Robinson,” said NCDP Spokeswoman Rachel Stein. “People from all walks of life – and political parties – have experiences with abortion. The North Carolina Republican Party ought to offer the same respect and privacy to every pregnant person’s health care decisions that they are giving to the Lieutenant Governor.”
