Right To Work, Early Voting, Memorial Day
Here’s what were covering this week!👇
Right To WorkÂ
Republicans know they are facing growing Democratic momentum across our state.
Instead of focusing on the issues that actually matter, like passing a state budget that is nearly a year overdue, they are fast-tracking unnecessary amendments to our constitution designed to fire up their base ahead of the election.
Their latest stunt is a “right to work” constitutional amendment.
Here’s what they’re not telling voters: this policy is already law in North Carolina and has been since 1947. Existing federal law already prohibits requiring union membership as a condition of employment. This amendment would not create any new rights or freedoms for workers.
You may remember Republicans used this same strategy in 2018 when they feared a blue wave and flooded the ballot with constitutional amendments meant to drive conservative turnout.
This is not about helping workers. It does not raise wages, lower costs, or create jobs.Â
What it does do is give Republicans another divisive political issue to put on the ballot because they are worried about turnout in a year where Democrats have real momentum.
It ultimately passed in the NC Senate this week and will next move to the NC House for a vote. Stay tuned for a pack the gallery announcement.
Early Voting At Risk
NC Republicans are moving forward with another attempt to restrict access to the ballot box. Next week, the General Assembly is expected to vote on legislation that would cut the early voting period almost in half. Rigging the maps last fall was not enough to make Republicans feel secure – they know they are facing growing momentum across this state, so they want to limit the opportunities people have to vote.Â
What you can do:Â
- Attend our Early Vote Advocacy Training on Thursdays at 6pm to learn about submitting public comments and how to effectively advocate for early voting in your community. Â
- If you’re around Raleigh, pack the gallery with us to tell the NCGA taking away voting opportunities is a losing strategy. We’ll send an email as soon as we know for sure when the General Assembly will vote. Let’s fill every seat in the gallery and remind our elected officials who they serve!
Memorial Day
As we gather with friends and family this Memorial Day, let us take a moment to pause and reflect on the sacrifices made by the brave service members who have served our country. We along with the NC Democratic Veterans and Military Families Caucus appreciate those who answered the call to serve and made the ultimate sacrifice. This day is not a celebration – it is a solemn promise to remember their courage, comfort their families and keep their legacy alive.Â
We extend our deepest appreciation to Gold Star families and all loved ones grieving a loss. We commit to listening, standing with you and fighting for the care and respect of all those who serve, and your family deserves.Â
In their memory, we will continue to work to:
- Protect and expand veterans’ access to quality health care and mental-health services.Â
- Ensure surviving families receive timely, fair benefits and survivor support.Â
- Create good-paying jobs, education, and transition programs to help veterans and their families as they move from military to civilian life.
- Strengthen communities and honor service through public recognition, memorials, and support services.Â
Honoring the fallen means so much more to us than words — it means protection, policy, and action. And a promise to hold GOP leaders accountable when they fall short on truly honoring our military.
Join us in remembering their sacrifice and in building a North Carolina that keeps its commitments to those who served and those we lost.
That’s a wrap for this week’s messaging!
Now it’s your turn! Download the graphics below, copy our captions, and get the message out! Whether you’re lighting up the group chat or sharing it on your timeline, your voice is what actually moves the needle!
See y’all on the internet!

“Right-to-Work” is a false slogan with a dark history. Now, NC Republicans want to enshrine it in our states constitution  because they’re panicked about our growing momentum. We deserve leaders who protect workers. Pass this on if you’re ready to vote them out this November! 📢
