NCDP Chair Responds To McCrory’s Offensive “Lunch Counter” Comments

Reporting from CNN uncovered past comments from U.S. Senate candidate Pat McCrory, in which he compared not receiving an offer to teach at Duke University to the discrimination that Black Americans experienced at lunch counters in the 1960s during segregation. NCDP Chair Bobbie Richardson released this statement in response: 

“North Carolinians have come to expect this type of ignorant, self-important rhetoric from Pat McCrory, and it’s exactly why they voted him out in 2016. As an alumna of the then-still-segregated Perry High School, it is clear to me that Mr. McCrory has a lot to learn about what the brave students who participated in the Woolworth sit-in endured. I assure him that his experiences have nothing in common with those heroes.”
