THEN VS. NOW: McCrory Silent On Jan. 6 Anniversary After Criticizing Trump In Aftermath

Defending former President Trump and his efforts to overturn the 2020 election has intensified  North Carolina’s U.S. Senate GOP primary as the field looks to appease Trump and the most extreme fringes of the party. The primary season hasn’t been more difficult for any candidate to navigate than McCrory – his weak footing illustrated in his recent silence on the anniversary of the Capitol insurrection.

THEN: Before he announced his run for U.S. Senate, McCrory was quick to criticize Trump, saying he was “destroying democracy” and that “the end result” was “pretty obvious,” and called the violence at the Capitol “inexcusable.”

What changed, Pat? Could it be that McCrory is desperately trying to keep up with his hard-right primary rivals and not risk “alienating” the GOP base?
