Pulse Remembrance, Flag Day, & Inflation

Here’s what we’re covering this week!👇

Inflation (Trump loves it)

We are facing troubling times under Trump’s economic policies, which continue to create hardships for many North Carolinians.  As costs soar for essential items–such as gasoline, groceries, food and basic goods many families across the country and in our state are suffering–and it’s not getting any better.

The numbers don’t lie:

Inflation has spiked to its highest level in over three years, effectively wiping out any wage increases as growth in earnings hovers at a four-year low.  Adding economic uncertainty to the mix, US based employers cut 97,000 jobs in May, the largest decline for that month since the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the fragility of the job market.  Americans everywhere are overwhelmingly dissatisfied with Trump economic management.  Recent polls indicate 7 in 10 Americans disapprove of his handling of the cost of living which impacts us all.

1000 days really?!?!

Imagine not paying your mortgage for 1000 days — you would be evicted.

Not paying your car payment for 1000 days — your car would be repossessed.

So why is it that in one week, it will be 1,000 days since the General Assembly last passed a state budget?

On Thursday morning, Democratic Leader Sydney Batch joined Senators Lisa Grafstein and Michael Garrett to discuss what that milestone means for North Carolina workers, public employees, small businesses, and families — and what Democrats have put on the table in response.

Whatley Protects Predators

With the NCGOP Convention in full swing this weekend, even some Republicans are voicing their disgust over Senate candidate Michael Whatley. His decision to repeatedly promote convicted child sex offender Harvey West to leadership roles within the party has rightfully raised concerns.

Republican activist Michele Woodhouse has been outspoken in her opposition to Whatley, stating, “There’s really nothing Michael Whatley could do that would get me to vote for him.” She pointed to the challenges faced by those who have long sounded the alarm, only to be dismissed by the entrenched “good old boys network.”

Margaret Ackiss, a member of the NCGOP’s executive committee, has also noted the persistent warnings regarding Whatley’s actions. Lifelong Republican David A. Williams articulated his concerns about Whatley’s fitness for public office, declaring him unworthy of the position.

Despite facing significant backlash and nearly three months of silence regarding his actions, Whatley continues to evade accountability. This silence speaks volumes, suggesting a troubling preference for political loyalty over the safety of North Carolina families.

As Whatley prepares to address the NCGOP Convention, we want to get this message out and show people who he really is and why it’s so important that we elect Roy Cooper for U.S. Senate – a candidate who embodies integrity and the values we stand for in North Carolina.

Sarah Stevens Retirement

Final note: we want to congratulate Sara Stevens on her retirement from the General assembly. Eighteen years of always making the wrong decisions is the sort of consistency that takes real effort to achieve. We all know why she retired – she hopes to rake in money from lobbyists and their PACS which is why we released this statement after the news broke:

“Sarah Stevens is abandoning her constituents so that she can raise dirty money from lobbyists and avoid accountability for her failure to fund education and public safety. For months, she has ducked questions about having known child predator Harvey West host a major fundraiser for her campaign. This is a trend. Stevens has proven that she will always put dirty money and her political aspirations above the people of North Carolina,” said NCDP Chair Anderson Clayton.

That’s a wrap for this week’s messaging!
