Mapping Our Way Forward, Fighting for Food, Don’t Ghost Your Vote
Our Digital Messages This Week 👇
Mapping Our Way Forward
Republicans redrew the lines to rig the game. Their new congressional map isn’t about “representation” — it’s about giving Donald Trump another seat in 2026. They know they can’t win on policy (hell, they can’t even pass a budget), so they’re doing what they do best: cheat. And when they cheat, it’s your voice they’re silencing.
We’re not rolling over and handing Donald Trump a new seat. The rigged map is being challenged in a supplemental redistricting lawsuit that calls it what it is — an unconstitutional racial gerrymander. Republicans used race as a proxy for partisanship, carving up communities to cling to power. It’s strategic, it’s cynical, and it’s a direct attack on democracy itself.
At the center of this fight is District 1, currently represented by Congressman Don Davis. It’s long been a Black opportunity district — a place where Black voters could elect a candidate of their choice. Republicans have sliced it apart, weakening Black voters’ power statewide.
This lawsuit faces an uphill battle before a Trump-aligned panel in state court, but this fight is essential. It’s not just about one district — it’s about every voter in North Carolina, the fight for fair maps, and the fight for our very democracy.
Here’s the bigger picture: Republicans only get away with this because they control our state Supreme Court. When Democrats held the majority, the court stood up for fair maps. After Republicans took over (now 5R–2D), they greenlit partisan gerrymandering overnight.
That’s why we must take back our courts and restore true democracy in North Carolina.
- In 2026, we must re-elect Justice Anita Earls, one of the strongest voices for fairness and accountability on the bench.
- In 2028, we flip three more seats to win a Democratic majority (5D–2R).
Republicans can redraw the lines all they want, but they can’t redraw the truth. North Carolinians deserve fair representation, not political games. This lawsuit is one step forward, and flipping our Supreme Court is how we finish the job. It’s time to unrig the system and map a future where every voice is heard.
Quick-Hit Talking Points
- Republicans redrew NC’s maps to give Donald Trump another GOP seat in 2026.
- The lawsuit challenges the new map as an unconstitutional racial gerrymander, especially in District 1.
- GOP mapmakers used race as a proxy for partisanship, diluting Black voters’ power.
- The case faces a Trump-aligned court, but it keeps the fight for fair maps alive.
- To fix this for good, we must re-elect Justice Anita Earls in 2026 and flip three more seats in 2028 to restore a fair, Democratic majority.
Fighting for Food
For 1.4 million North Carolina families, November 1 isn’t just another date on the calendar — it’s a deadline. That’s when Donald Trump’s reckless cuts to SNAP take effect, stripping food assistance from families already struggling through a government shutdown that Republicans created.
The pain doesn’t stop there. November 1 also marks the day nearly one million North Carolinians — many of them the same families losing food benefits — will see their health care costs double.
So, what are Democrats doing?
Attorney General Jeff Jackson has joined a bipartisan coalition of leaders to take the Trump administration to court, fighting back against an immoral policy that would pull the rug out from under hardworking families, veterans, and children who rely on SNAP and WIC to survive.
These cuts have nothing to do with “saving money.” Donald Trump just approved a $40 billion bailout for Argentina’s collapsing economy, all while obsessing over the construction of his $300 million ballroom. This is what Republican leadership looks like. They’ll spend billions abroad, protect tax breaks for billionaires, and funnel wealth to the ultra-rich — but when it comes to feeding families here at home, suddenly the checkbook slams shut.
Democrats are doing everything we can — legally, morally, and urgently — to fight back. This lawsuit is about more than just SNAP. It’s about standing up for the basic principle that no one in the richest country on Earth should go hungry because of political games in Washington.
615 Days
It’s been 615 days since the last Leandro hearing — that’s 615 days of waiting for the court to tell the Republican legislature to release the damn money.
Let’s be clear: this isn’t some bureaucratic delay. It’s a moral failure. For nearly two years, North Carolina’s public schools have been stuck in limbo while politicians in Raleigh drag their feet on fulfilling a constitutional promise — that every child in our state deserves access to a sound, basic education.
State Superintendent Mo Green said it best: “The wait has been unusually long. It’s crucial to remember that Leandro isn’t just about money — it’s about ensuring every North Carolina student has access to the systems and support necessary for a sound, basic education.”
Yet here we are, 615 days later, still waiting.
Republicans in the legislature could release this funding tomorrow if they wanted to. Instead, they’ve spent their time rigging our maps to hand Donald Trump a new congressional seat in 2026 — and then decided they didn’t want to work for the rest of the year, closing out the 2025 session without a single vote to help our kids.
Meanwhile, classrooms across our state are struggling — teachers buying their own supplies, kids learning in outdated buildings, and districts forced to choose between heating classrooms or keeping the art program alive.
The North Carolina Democratic Party is fighting for a future where no student has to wonder if their classroom will have heat in the winter, or if their music and art programs will be first on the chopping block. We’re committed to electing leaders who see our children not as line items in a budget, but as our state’s most valuable investment.
But we can’t do it alone. We need to build a movement strong enough to demand equity and justice for every public school in North Carolina.
More than 750 of you have already signed our petition calling on state leaders to stop defunding our schools — and we need you to join them.
✏️ Sign the petition and help us elect leaders who will fully fund North Carolina’s public schools.
