Shutdown Press Tour, Redistricting Watch, Vote Early

Our Digital Messages This Week 👇

Government Shutdown: The Press Tour

From Asheville to Charlotte to Raleigh, we are hitting the road to make our message clear: DC Republicans must fund healthcare, pay workers, restore jobs, and end this shutdown immediately. Through a series of press conferences across the state, Democratic leaders are demanding that the GOP put the needs of everyday people above partisan politics.

This shutdown didn’t happen overnight. It is the direct consequence of years of Republican policies that spike healthcare costs, gut Medicaid for hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians, threaten rural hospitals with closure, and push premiums higher for working families.

Starting in January, nearly a million North Carolinians will face average healthcare premium increases of double or more — a crisis created entirely by Republicans’ refusal to act.

As this shutdown drags on, one thing is clear: Democrats in North Carolina will not sit silently while Republicans gamble with families’ health, livelihoods, and futures. From every corner of the state, the message is the same — fund healthcare, pay workers, restore jobs, and end the shutdown now.

Redistricting Watch

The fight for our democracy has arrived in North Carolina. It’s no shocker that the Republicans are scared of losing, they’re failing at every level of government. They can’t pass a budget, they can’t deliver on their promises, and they know their policies are deeply unpopular. So instead of earning votes, they’re rigging the maps, again. This time targeting a U.S. House seat to give themselves and Donald Trump a leg up heading into 2026.

Last month it was reported that President Trump was pressuring Senate Leader Phil Berger to draw new maps favorable to congressional Republicans in exchange for a political favor. Berger denied it, of course—but his actions told the real story. Senator Berger announced “we will hold votes in our October session to redraw North Carolina’s congressional map.” Once again, Phil Berger Destin Hall, is proving that they’ll do whatever it takes to please Donald, even if it means steamrolling the will of North Carolinians.

Maps should not give you power, voters should. That’s why we are rallying on Tuesday, October 21st in Raleigh, NC to send the GOP a message: North Carolinians are watching and we’re not backing down.

Vote Early

Early voting is officially open across North Carolina—and it’s our time to lead. Every election reminds us that the power of our democracy rests in the hands of those who show up early and show up strong. This is our moment to do just that.

Republicans have spent the past year purging voter rolls, restricting access, and spreading confusion about when and how North Carolinians can vote. They know that when more people vote, their grip on power weakens—and that’s exactly why they’re trying to make it harder for us to participate. But here’s the truth: when we vote early, we take that power back.

Between now and November 1st, every North Carolinian has the chance to cast their ballot early. Voting early means shorter lines, more flexibility, and less risk that life’s last-minute surprises stand between you and the ballot box.

Take a few minutes today to double-check your registration, find your nearest early voting site, and view your sample ballot: http://ncsbe.gov/voting/vote-early-personvt.ncsbe.gov/RegLkup/

Because when we vote early, we don’t just cast a ballot — we cast a vision for the North Carolina we believe in. One where families can thrive, healthcare is affordable, schools are strong, and every voter counts. North Carolina Democrats don’t wait to fight for what’s right. We lead the way.

Medical Debt

In a victory for North Carolina families, Governor Stein announced that more than $6.5 billion in medical debt has been wiped clean for over 2.5 million residents across the state. This initiative, first launched under Governor Cooper, leverages the Medicaid system to help hospitals clear past medical debt and adopt practices that prevent patients from being buried under crushing medical bills in the future.

While Washington Republicans continue to shutdown the government and block access to affordable healthcare, North Carolina Democrats are delivering real results that improve lives here at home. Far too many families have been trapped in a cycle of debt that forces impossible choices between health, housing, and basic necessities. This announcement gives millions of North Carolinians a chance to catch up financially, reduce stress, and plan for the future.

“NCDP celebrates the tireless work of Governors Stein and Cooper to expand access to affordable healthcare and lift the weight of medical debt from the shoulders of North Carolinians,” said NCDP Chair Anderson Clayton. “This program doesn’t just erase debt—it helps families get back on their feet, strengthens hospitals, and makes our state a better place to live and thrive.”

This milestone is proof that Democratic leadership is committed to real solutions for real people, even when Republicans in Washington are busy prioritizing billionaires over families. It’s a reminder that when we show up and fight for policies that work, lives are changed—and communities are strengthened.
