Knock Knock, DemsFM, Pocket Justice

Here’s what we’re covering this week!👇

Rewriting the Future

Last week we talked about how Republicans like Sarah Stevens are rewriting their own election laws, as a last ditch effort to cling to power. We rallied, we packed the gallery and because of y’all showing up, the bill has been slowed down. This is a great victory and Republicans are seeing that WE THE PEOPLE will decide who has a job this November.

No matter what happens we will keep our eye on it and make sure everyone has access to the ballot box.

Budget Talks

Over 1000 days later, Republicans have announced a budget “framework” and the budget is supposedly coming next week – the same timeline it’s been given every week for the last month now. We are thankful for Governor Josh Stein who has been working with both sides to help get something done. Once finalized, and voted on, it makes its way to Governor Stein.  According to the Governor, our delayed budget has affected teachers and state employees’ pay, underfunded Medicaid, delayed agencies’ maintenance, slowed services, stalled hiring, postponed modernization efforts and delayed payments to vendors and impacted families with a lack of investment in affordable, accessible child care which weakens working families across the state.

North Carolina has not passed a budget since 2023, which is causing a strain for North Carolinians, especially  with inflation driving  up costs.

Once the budget is passed here’s what it could mean for our State Employees:

Possible 3% Pay increase for State Employees that include:

    • Teachers: Receive a salary increase to enhance compensation and retain talent.
    • State Troopers: Get a pay raise to improve recruitment and retention efforts.
    • Public Health Workers: Benefit from increased wages to address workforce shortages.
    • Correctional Officers: See a salary boost to improve working conditions and reduce turnover.
    • Social Workers: Experience pay increases to support their critical roles in community services.
    • State Employees: Overall salary adjustments to ensure competitive pay across various departments.

NC Dems District Run

We are pleased to announce the next phase of our 2026 Congressional District Run, which continues in North Carolina’s 10th Congressional District on Sunday.

On Sunday, Chair Clayton and Congressional Candidate Ashley Bell will visit Forsyth, Catawba, Iredell, and Lincoln Counties to foster community dialogue in District 10. The events will provide an opportunity for local residents to discuss pressing issues and share their priorities for the upcoming midterm elections.
