Judge John Arrowood, A Big, Blown Up Deficit, HB127

Happy Wednesday North Carolina Democrats!
Our Digital Messages This Week 👇
Judicial Spotlight: Judge John Arrowood ⚖️
We’re back with our Judicial Spotlight Series, where each week we highlight a key 2026 judicial race that will shape the future of our state. This week, our spotlight turns to the North Carolina Court of Appeals — and one of its most experienced and principled judges: Judge John Arrowood.
Judge Arrowood brings unmatched experience, deep integrity, and a lifelong commitment to public service. Raised in rural Yancey County and shaped by personal loss, he’s never forgotten where he comes from — or who he’s fighting for.
He’s served on the Court of Appeals, as a Special Superior Court Judge, and as a certified mediator — always guided by fairness and the law, not politics. Off the bench, he’s just as committed, giving back through local nonprofits, the arts, and faith-based outreach.
At a time when extremists are working to politicize the courts, we need steady, principled judges like John Arrowood. Let’s re-elect Judge John Arrowood to the Court of Appeals. Together, we can protect democracy — one judge at a time.
A Big, Blown Up Deficit đź’¸
Last week, we broke down the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” — a cruel MAGA wishlist that slashes Medicaid, guts food assistance, and tears apart the safety net millions of families rely on. This week, we’re shifting our focus to the price tag that will explode the national deficit — the very deficit Donald once claimed he would bring down.
According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, this bill could add $4 to $5 trillion to the federal deficit. You read that right: trillion. Guess who is ready to vote yes? North Carolina’s own Thom Tillis. This is the same Thom Tillis who has spent years lecturing the public about the dangers of overspending. The same guy who promised to “get our fiscal house in order.” Now he’s ready to light the deficit on fire — as long as it benefits billionaires and corporate donors.
We won’t forget. We won’t let this slide. We sure as hell won’t let him keep his seat in 2026. This bill isn’t just your typical republican hypocrisy. It’s a betrayal to every American. Call your Senators. Demand a big, beautiful NO. 📞
HB127 Back in Action 🚨
After months of silence — and an attempted election heist — House Bill 127 is back on the calendar in Raleigh. HB127 criminalizes helping your neighbors register to vote. That’s not an exaggeration — that’s the intent.
Sponsored by Republican legislators like Rep. Warren, Blackwell, Echevarria, Loftis, Almond, and Ward, this bill is a direct attack on community-based voter registration drives — one of the most powerful tools we have to build civic participation and protect democracy.
From Jefferson Griffin’s effort to throw out 67,000 votes in a Supreme Court race to this latest attempt to silence everyday people, the GOP is running the same playbook: Cheat the system. Suppress the vote. Cling to power.
We can’t let this stand. Not today. Not ever.
Call your representative today and tell them to vote NO on HB127. 📞 Because helping someone register to vote should never be a crime.
Stein’s Prime Time 🎥
Governor Josh Stein recently joined The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, using the national stage to spotlight North Carolina’s progress — and to call out the real dangers of MAGA extremism. Stein appeared on the show as part of Open for Business Week — a push to bring national attention, support, and tourism dollars to Western North Carolina communities hit hard by Hurricane Helene.
Stein’s message was clear: Western North Carolina is rebuilding — and it’s open for business. He reminded viewers that FEMA was essential to recovery, and warned what’s at stake under Trump’s plan to eliminate it: “To eliminate FEMA would be a man-made disaster.” Despite partisan divides,Stein is committed to representing all North Carolinians — Democrat or Republican — focusing on issues that affect every family across the state.
Stein didn’t shy away from national policy either, calling out the GOP’s so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” which would slash Medicaid and SNAP benefits for millions just to fund massive tax breaks for billionaires. “You can’t take that kind of money out of the system without people losing coverage.”
From defending disaster relief to standing up for working families and promoting local business, Josh Stein is showing the steady, principled leadership North Carolina needs — and deserves.

Hurricane Season (Yes, its a real thing) 🌧️
It sounds unbelievable — but FEMA’s new acting director, David Richardson, reportedly didn’t know there was a hurricane season until after taking over the agency.
When word got out, the White House claimed he was “joking.” Hurricane Helene was no joke. Families still without homes don’t find it funny. Business owners rebuilding literally from the ground up aren’t laughing.
This is the kind of “leadership” Trump’s administration offers: unprepared, out of touch, and quick to make excuses while people suffer. Richardson’s cluelessness isn’t just embarrassing — it’s downright dangerous.
How can you lead disaster response if you don’t even know when disasters happen? North Carolinians deserve better than a FEMA head who treats hurricanes like a punchline. It’s time for real accountability — before the next disaster strikes.

Under HB127, these will become a crime:
❌ Setting up a voter registration table at a local event
❌ Helping your neighbor fill out a form
❌ Organizing volunteers to register voters in your community
This is how democracy dies — not with a bang, but a bill.
Call your rep. Tell them to vote NO on HB127.📞
