Affordability
Here we go again. I wish we had some better news, but unfortunately y’all the GOP continues to attack our healthcare system making it harder for people to get care, weakening our economy and overall making stuff cost more.
If you don’t believe us, just look at the latest numbers showing the impact of Trump’s economy on everyday Americans like you and me.
On Friday, the jobs report showed that the economy lost 23,000 jobs in July. The numbers for May and June were also sharply revised downward, meaning that over the last three months, the economy has created about 200,000 fewer jobs than expected.
Top economists are sounding the alarm on Trump’s tanking economy, pointing out how “job growth is at a virtual standstill” and “few businesses are hiring,” which is forcing job seekers to leave the workforce entirely.
The affordability crisis is real. Whether it’s putting gas in the vehicle, groceries on the table, or getting the kids ready for school, everything costs more than it did a few years back. Overall, 7 in 10 Americans disapprove of Trump’s economy, and a whopping 95% of U.S. adults report the country is in an affordability crisis.
Back to School
Families are expected to pay nearly $4,000 per child for the upcoming school year, a double-digit percentage increase largely driven by more expensive school supplies and rising fuel and food costs. Next year, health insurers are planning to dramatically raise premiums for Americans who get their healthcare through the ACA marketplace.
The average household has had to spend more than $3,500 extra since Trump took office.
Elephant Of The Week
Last week multiple news stories broke that concern the future of our state’s highest court.
Cardinal & Pine published an in-depth look at how deeply entangled Justice Newby, his Republican colleagues on the court, and current court candidate Sarah Stevens are with convicted child predator Harvey West. Beyond that, we also saw Sarah Stevens’ final power grab bill advance out of the General Assembly where she hopes to give Chief Justice Newby more unchecked power to corrupt the judiciary further. Finally, it also came out that Sarah Stevens attended a fundraiser with House Speaker Mike Johnson as he props up Rep. Max Miller through his child abuse and domestic violence cases.
Good News
The good news, we are less than 90 days until the midterms, and Democrats hold a 9-point advantage over Republicans on the economy and a 20-point advantage among extremely motivated voters.
