Dems Lock In, Teachers Appreciation Week, Drowning Don
Here’s what were covering this week!👇
NC House Dems Introduce Affordable Food Act
Democrats in the NC House have sponsored a bill to strengthen the purchasing power of SNAP benefits for healthy food. The bill would create a State Food Procurement and Farmer Stabilization Program to buy North Carolina-grown or processed food for public and nonprofit food assistance, and it would ensure military and veteran food assistance programs keep the men and women who protect our nation from going hungry. More details on the bill and its provisions can be found here.
We can help preserve farmland and promote farmers while making life more affordable for everyday North Carolinians. This bill also supports veterans by ensuring they and their families have food assistance when needed; nobody who sacrifices and serves our country should go hungry.
Democrats fully fund Medicaid!
After months of uncertainty, Governor Stein and Democrats in the General Assembly were finally able to secure the needed funding from the historically inactive General Assembly to fully fund Medicaid and secure Medicaid expansion in North Carolina!
Millions of working people and families across the state can breathe easier knowing that the programs they rely on to visit the doctor and take care of their critical health care needs are more secure. We hope the General Assembly will build off this momentum and pass a badly needed, full budget that is now more than 300 days late.
Teacher Appreciation Week
Last week, thousands of educators rallied at the State Capitol, and our Chair Anderson Clayton along with other Democratic leaders pushing for education funding were right there with them! The North Carolina Association of Educators mobilized teachers from across the state to march on the Legislative Building to demand higher pay, more school funding and higher taxes on corporations. At least 22 school districts canceled classes because so many of their employees requested the day off.
So what’s next? We are calling on the legislature to pass a budget to act now and fund our schools! Add your name to our petition demanding fully funded public schools in North Carolina.
Republicans Are Abandoning Trump on the Economy
Trump is deeply underwater on the economy, with his approval rating at the lowest of either term. In fact, in a recent poll, 41% of Republicans disapproved of Donald Trump on the cost of living.
In March, inflation increased at the highest rate in nearly 3 years, while consumer spending continues to slow due to high prices.
Overall, 55% of Americans say their financial situation is getting worse — the highest level in 25 years. Only 18% of voters strongly approve of Trump, his lowest of his second term, including less than half of his 2024 voters.
For the first time since 2010, a recent Fox News poll showed that Americans prefer Democrats over Republicans on the economy.
Americans are fed up with Trump and Republicans. The average family is spending an additional $5,000 this year due to tariffs, spiking gas prices, higher grocery costs and health insurance premium increases.
That’s a wrap for this week’s messaging!

With these bills, we’re putting solutions on the table to lower your healthcare costs. Now it’s on the GOP to fix the mess they made and give these bills a hearing. No one should have to choose between keeping the lights on and buying life-saving medicine.
Stop stalling and start serving.
