Steve Bannon is once again calling out Michael Whatley for lacking enthusiasm from the Republican base after proving that he’s a DC insider and Big Oil lobbyist who repeatedly puts his own political and financial gain over North Carolina families.

Bannon has slammed Whatley before for “running so poorly” in North Carolina and saying that “folks [are] just not enthusiastic” about his candidacy.
This comes just days after Michele Woodhouse, the former Chair of the NCGOP’s 11th Congressional District, said Whatley might be “an albatross” around the neck of down ballot Republicans.
Even Republicans know Whatley’s record is out-of-touch:
- Whatley appointed a convicted child sex offender to NCGOP leadership. Harvey West served six years in prison for sexually abusing three minors and has admitted he was open with party leaders about his criminal past.
- Whatley has repeatedly pushed policies that benefit his stock portfolio while raising costs on North Carolinians – from gas, to health care, to flood insurance for disaster victims.
- He has refused to give a stance on Duke Energy’s proposed rate hikes which would benefit the over $400,000 he has invested in Duke Energy.
- He spent more than a decade lobbying for utility companies including Duke Energy and “argu[ing] in favor of rate increases.”
