Omnibus, 1000 Days, District Run
Here’s what we’re covering this week!👇
Omnibus
On Friday Rep. Sarah Stevens, the Republican candidate running to take Justice Anita Earls seat, dropped an unannounced 36-page elections bill packed with sweeping changes to North Carolina’s voting laws.
Sarah Stevens knows that increased turnout will benefit her opponent, Justice Anita Earls, so her new bill bans folks on local elections boards from encouraging voters to vote.
Stevens knows that Justice Earls is running circles around her in fundraising, so her new bill makes it easier to buy elections with dark money.
Stevens knows that young people don’t want a justice who legislates like it’s the 1950s, so her new bill eliminates pre-registration for sixteen- and seventeen-year-olds to make sure new eighteen-year-old voters have to jump through another hoop to cast a ballot.
Stevens knows that folks with disabilities and long-term care needs will remember how she left them out to dry by not fully-funding Medicaid, so her new bill makes it harder to cast ballots from nursing homes and care facilities.
And Sarah Stevens knows that to win against a proven justice like Justice Anita Earls, she might need to try to steal an election the way Republicans tried to with the last Supreme Court race. That’s why her new bill makes it easier for vigilante poll observers to challenge a voter’s ballot.
That isn’t all of it. House Bill 958 is over thirty pages long and full of sweeping changes to our elections laws. North Carolina Dems are fighting this with everything we’ve got, because while Sarah Stevens is doing this in her own self-interest, these changes will help Republicans up and down the ballot.
Stay tuned for calls to Pack the Gallery if this bill continues moving.
District Run
The NC Dems just launched District Run, a statewide tour to introduce our slate of strong, community-focused Congressional candidates who are ready to fight for working families.
NCDP Chair Anderson Clayton and District 9 Congressional Candidate Major (Ret.) Richard Ojeda began the tour with local educators, business owners and state candidates at a press conference and Town Hall with 100+ people in attendance.
During the press conference, teacher Tabitha Boswell spoke about the detrimental impact of federal cuts at her Title One school, which eliminated vital food programs, affecting children’s access to healthy snacks and meals. Teacher Tasha Miles shared her personal struggles of working multiple jobs to make ends meet due to low pay.
The press conference was followed by an engaging Town Hall Q&A session, attended by over 100 community members, where audience members posed questions to Chair Clayton, Ojeda, and candidates for the North Carolina General Assembly, including Ian Baltutis, LeVon Barnes, and Southey Blanton.
Midterm turnout typically trails presidential years by more than 20 points. The District Summer Tour aims to close that gap by meeting voters where they are — at block parties, canvass launches, volunteer appreciation events and local forums — pairing high‑profile stops with coordinated voter contact that translates awareness to votes.

MOMnibus
While Republicans are busy undermining voting rights and blocking our freedoms, our legislators are standing up and fighting back—even as both the GOP and the White House attempt to cut corners that harm Black mothers and their babies.
Did you know that Black women are three to four times more likely to experience pregnancy-related deaths compared to their white counterparts? This is a stark reality, and it’s that’s why
Democratic lawmakers, alongside dedicated maternal health advocates, are launching a new legislative initiative aimed at addressing the alarming disparities in maternal health outcomes for Black women in North Carolina.
At the heart of this initiative is the MOMnibus 3.5 Act, a proposal that seeks to invest $20 million into community-focused maternal health programs. The bill includes vital components like implicit bias training for healthcare providers and initiatives to bring maternal health resources directly to our rural communities.
State Senator Natalie Murdock, who has pushed for several bills to protect Black Maternal Health emphasized the urgency of these measures, stating, “Health care is a basic human right.”
Murdock and our Democratic leaders plan to push for the MOMnibus until every mother and child in our state receives the support they deserve.
1000 Days
This week marks 1,000 days since North Carolina has had a budget.
One thousand days!
Can you imagine not doing your job for that long and still expecting to have a job?
Republicans have proved time and again that they cannot govern. Destin Hall and Phil Berger have left North Carolina as the only state in the country without a budget — and Phil Berger is rightfully feeling the consequences of that inaction in his primaries.
This November, when we step into that voting booth, we’re not just electing Democrats. We’re voting for action. We’re voting for accountability. And we’re voting for candidates who will actually get sh*t done.
That’s a wrap for this week’s messaging!
Now it’s your turn! Download the graphics below, copy our captions, and get the message out! Whether you’re lighting up the group chat or sharing it on your timeline, your voice is what actually moves the needle!
See y’all on the internet!
