The Cost of War, Stop Sarah Stevens, Eight Months Overdue
Here’s what were covering this week!👇
The Cost Of War
It’s been exactly one month since Donald and JD bypassed common sense and dragged us into an unnecessary war with Iran. We knew their brand of chaos was dangerous, but right now, North Carolina families are paying a devastating price.
The Human Cost: In just one month, this reckless escalation has cost the lives of 13 brave U.S. service members and injured roughly 300. These are the service members GOP Senate candidate Michael Whatley actually claimed “aren’t sacrificing at all for a forever war.” That’s a flat-out insult to every military family in our state.
The Economic Toll: This manufactured war will soon pass $25 billion, and now the Pentagon is asking for another $200 billion to keep it going. To put that in perspective: that’s $60 billion more than the priciest year of the Iraq War, and more than we’ve spent supporting Ukraine over four years. Working families are stretched thin, gas and groceries are climbing by the day with inflation projected to jump right back over 4%.
The Verdict: Over 60% of the country disapproves of this mess, and Donald’s polling is sinking fast. Democrats stand united. We want sensible leadership that prioritizes our lives and our livelihoods over D.C. egos and needless conflict.
Stop Sarah Stevens
Folks, it’s time we pull the curtains back. Over the next few weeks, we are going to be taking a hard, honest look at Rep. Sarah Stevens’ track record in the legislature. Spoiler alert: it is a masterclass in bad judgment that impacts every single one of us.
Exhibit A: The voting maps.
When you’re elected to serve North Carolina, your job is to make sure your neighbors have a voice. But while in the legislature, Sarah Stevens threw her full support behind congressional and legislative maps that were so blatantly rigged, the U.S. Supreme Court had to step in and strike them down. The official ruling? Unconstitutionally racially gerrymandered.
Our courts are the last line of defense for our freedoms and our democracy. We absolutely cannot afford to let Stevens’ reign of bad decision-making anywhere near the bench. It’s time to stop the nonsense, protect the integrity of our courts, and re-elect Supreme Court Justice Anita Earls.
Eight Months Overdue
Imagine not doing your job for eight months. Eight. You’d be packing up your desk before lunch. But in Raleigh, Republican lawmakers are doing exactly that. It’s been eight months since the state budget was due. They have a supermajority, meaning they hold all the cards and control the entire agenda.
While they bicker behind closed doors playing political games, everyday North Carolinians are left holding the bag. Public school teachers are waiting on crucial classroom funding, state employees are stuck in financial limbo without the raises they were promised, and vital Medicaid funding is stalled out, leaving folks without the care they deserve. Governor Stein put forth a Critical Needs Budget that would help fill these gaps but predictably Republican Leadership has continued to drag their feet.
This November, we have the chance to break the supermajority, take our state back, and elect leaders who actually get the job done. If Raleigh Republicans can’t even pass a basic budget, they have no business running our state.
That’s a wrap for this week’s messaging!
