NCDP Statement Celebrating Juneteenth

Raleigh – North Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Wayne Goodwin released the following statement in celebration of Juneteenth:

“Today, North Carolina Democrats join communities across the country to celebrate word of freedom reaching the deepest corners of the Confederacy on this date in 1865 and the emancipation of African-Americans in general. The news of freedom finally reached Galveston, Texas more than two years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth is a time to honor the history, culture, heritage, and freedom of the African-American community and recommit ourselves to the continued fight for equal rights and justice in our state, our nation, and across the world.”
