How the Cassidy-Graham-Heller-Johnson Repeal Bill Will Hurt North Carolina

Raleigh – Republicans in Washington are moving closer this week to sabotaging our health care system and putting working families at risk over the protests and pleas of millions of Americans. Their newest scheme – the Cassidy-Graham-Heller-Johnson bill – would gut Medicaid, increase costs, end tax credits, and cause millions of Americans to lose their health insurance.

“By cancelling tax credits, eliminating subsidies, and ending Medicaid as we know it, the Cassidy-Graham-Heller-Johnson bill will harm hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians who rely on these benefits to purchase health care for themselves and their families.” NCDP spokesman Robert Howard said. “Health care is a right, not a privilege, and Republicans in D.C. and Raleigh should be working with Democrats to expand this right, not diminish it.”

Here is a look at how North Carolinians will suffer under the Cassidy-Graham-Heller-Johnson bill:

  • Ends Medicaid as we know it, hurting seniors, people with disabilities, and other communities across North Carolina.
  • Cancels tax credits that help 421,275 families – 93 percent of North Carolina marketplace enrollees – afford health insurance.
  • Eliminates subsidies that reduce out-of-pocket costs for 300,255 North Carolina residents, which is 67% of the total marketplace enrollees in North Carolina.
  • Slashes billions in federal funding to states for expanding health insurance coverage and lowering costs.
