The bills increase resources to fight Internet crimes against children, authorize a new public awareness campaign to promote Internet safety and provide tough new penalties against those people and companies who produce, view and allow others to purchase child pornography. The legislation also cracks down on sex offenders by allowing judges to require convicted sex offenders to use internet tracking and filtering software that limits offenders’ access to certain material online.

Congressman McIntyre stated, “As the home state of the first-powered flight, North Carolina is the logical choice for the namesake of where this flight occurred, and our state should have the USS Kitty Hawk’s final berthing spot. I am pleased that in my initial meeting with Navy officials from the Pentagon, they were quite receptive to this proposal.”

After unanimous passage of a resolution on Monday night by the New Hanover County Commissioners requesting assistance from the state’s congressional delegation, Congressman McIntyre immediately discussed the matter with Pentagon officials on Tuesday. North Carolina Farmers and the Drought

Republican Congressmen Patrick McHenry, Virginia Foxx, and Sue Myrick refused to sign a letter to help North Carolina farmers get federal disaster assistance, the Winston-Salem Journal reports. North Carolina farms are suffering from a statewide drought.

A bipartisan coalition of 10 of North Carolina’s 13 congressional members wrote a letter to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. and House Minority Leader Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio, asking for help.

The letter comes as the state’s soybean, peanut, and Irish potato production are down by 31, 21, and 15 percent, respectively, from last year.

"This is not a partisan problem, and both parties’ leaderships need to be aware of the severity of the problem," Rep. Mike McIntyre, D-7th, told the Winston-Salem Journal.

McIntyre spearheaded the effort.

But Republican obstructionists McHenry, Foxx, and Myrick all allowed partisanship to get in the way of helping their constituents.
