Over $124,000 Raised in 2 1/2 Month Filing Period

Hickory, NC - Daniel Johnson, candidate in North Carolina's 10th Congressional District, will report over $340,000 raised to date in his bid to unseat incumbent Rep. Patrick McHenry. After this most recent financial filing due today, Johnson will continue to be among the strongest Congressional challengers in North Carolina.

"Our continued fundraising success shows the strong coalition we are building here in the 10th District," said Johnson, "People in our community are joining with us because they are ready to end partisan bickering and want leaders who will work hard to find real solutions to the serious problems facing Western North Carolina families."

Non-Partisan Cook Report Changes NC-10 Race Ranking

District No Longer "Solid Republican" Because of Daniel Johnson Campaign's Increasing Strength

The Cook Political Report, an independent, non-partisan newsletter that analyzes campaigns, today moved the race in North Carolina's 10th Congressional District out of the "Solid Republican" category.

The Cook Political Report included Daniel Johnson's challenge to Rep. Patrick McHenry on a list of races "worth keeping tabs on."

Independent Poll Shows McHenry Weak in NC's 10th District

An independent poll released today by Public Policy Polling clearly demonstrates that the voters of North Carolina's 10th Congressional District are looking for a change in leadership in Washington. Respondents overwhelmingly reject the divisive leadership style that has been the hallmark of Patrick McHenry's tenure in Washington and express a strong disapproval of President Bush's performance, which McHenry has championed.

Daniel Johnson's Op-ed on Lower Gas Prices

Hickory Daily Record

Our nation faces a grave energy crisis, but with the right leadership, we can convert this challenge into a great opportunity to create jobs, strengthen our national security, and protect our natural resources.

Skyrocketing gas prices are busting our family budgets and shrinking our businesses’ bottom lines. At the same time, America’s dependence on Middle East oil leaves our national security at the mercy of unstable and sometimes hostile foreign regimes. Our addiction to foreign oil is an economic issue, a security issue, and a moral issue that requires immediate action.

We cannot leave this crisis for our children to solve.

Republican Patrick McHenry Begins Smear Campaign

Before the primary election results have even been certified, Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) has already begun his negative campaigning. In a statement on his website, Rep. McHenry says about the Johnson campaign:

"The Democrats are preparing to mount a competitive bid for our seat. I called Daniel Johnson last night to congratulate him on his win and tell him that I look forward to a vigorous campaign on the issues moving forward.

But Nancy Pelosi's chosen recruit, a trial lawyer from Raleigh, already has his pockets stuffed with cash from Washington liberals, and we know there will be more to come."
