State Party Elected Officers

Chair: Jerry Meek

State Democratic Party Chair Jerry Meek has been involved in the Democratic Party since age 13. He has served as State and National President of the Teen Democrats, as the youngest delegate to the 1988 Democratic National Convention, as a precinct chair and as a congressional district officer. At 25, he was elected to serve as the Chairman of the Cumberland County Democratic Party, before being nominated for the N.C. House of Representatives. From 2003-2005, he served as First Vice Chair of the N.C. Democratic Party. First elected in 2005, Jerry was re-elected Chair unanimously in January 2007. As an undergraduate, Jerry attended Duke University on a scholarship. He then attended the University of Notre Dame on a fellowship, graduating with a Master's degree in Government, before graduating from Duke Law School. He is a medical malpractice attorney with the Law Offices of Wade Byrd in Fayetteville. Click here for an extended bio.

First Vice Chair: Dannie Montgomery

Dannie Montgomery is a grassroots Democrat from Anson County and resides in Lilesville with her husband, John, of 25 years. She has been actively engaged and involved in the party politics since 1992. She served as the county's First Vice Chair for six years. During this time, her primary responsibility was GOTV, voter registration, and assisting candidates on the ballots with getting their messages and materials out to their constituents in the county. She served as Anson County Democratic Party chair 1999-2005 promoting Democratic Party issues through presentations, forums, and meetings. Under her leadership, Anson has enjoyed huge Democratic victories using a well-organized GOTV effort that continues to thrive even during off-year elections. She was elected the 8th District Democratic Party Chair in 2004, ran a campaign for county commissioner, was narrowly defeated in a runoff, and followed with the Kissell for Congress Campaign which was the second closest race in the country. She has served as a NCDP Executive Member since 1999 and has worked across the 8th District promoting and to strengthen GOTV programs.

Second Vice Chair: Delmas Parker

Delmas Parker, Second Vice Chair, has served at every level of politics in the Party, from the precinct level to the leadership of the State Party. Delmas has served as Ashe County Chair, as Vice Chair of the 5th and 10th Congressional Districts, as Chair of the 5th Congressional District, as a candidate for Congress in the 5th Congressional District, as a member of the State Executive Committee, as a member of the State Platform and Resolutions Committee, and as a member of the North Carolina Democratic Party Executive Council. Delmas lives in Clemmons and is married to Sue Lewis Parker. He has one son and three grandchildren.

Third Vice Chair: Courtney Crowder

Third Vice Chair Courtney Crowder is a Senior Account Executive for Government Relations at Capstrat, Inc. in Raleigh. Courtney worked as a district representative in Congressman Bob Etheridge's office in Raleigh. In 2002, he managed Etheridge's successful re-election campaign, garnering Etheridge the largest vote percentage he had ever received. In 2004, Courtney served as political director for the NC Democratic Party. Courtney graduated cum laude from North Carolina Central University with degrees in English literature and French. He also studied history, politics and society at the University of Oxford and earned a master's degree from Duke University.

Secretary: Roy Lucas

Mr. Roy Lucas was elected Secretary in January 2007 at the party’s State Executive Committee Meeting. A life-long Democrat, Mr. Lucas worked for several Democratic candidates for NC House, NC Senate, and Pitt County Commissioner in 2006.  In 2004, he was a volunteer for the Kerry-Edwards campaign and the U.S. Senate campaign for Erskine Bowles.
Mr. Lucas is a graduate of N.C. State University and The Ohio State University where he received a BA in English and a MBA respectively.  He has held several positions as a marketing executive in Fortune 200 telecommunication companies and has used these talents to advise local candidates on their media strategies.  Mr. Lucas lives in Greenville with his wife Karen and son Aaron and daughter Maria.

 

Treasurer: Muriel Offerman

Treasurer Muriel Offerman served as the Secretary of Revenue for the State of North Carolina. She currently serves as Deputy Chair for Programs, Employment Security Commission of North Carolina. Muriel is President of the Women's Forum of North Carolina and has served as a member of the Democratic National Committee. She is married to Max Offerman and lives in Cary.
