State Executive Committee Meets; Meek Re-Elected NC Democratic Party Chair

Elon, NC-Today, the State Executive Committee of the North Carolina Democratic Party met at Elon University in Elon, NC. The Committee, comprised of more than 700 Democratic Party leaders and activists from all 100 counties, is the governing body of the Party.

Among the Committee's business was the election of statewide Party officers, who will serve two year terms.

Current Chair Jerry Meek was re-elected unanimously by acclamation.

In a speech following his victory, Meek thanked the Committee for their support and vowed to continue rebuilding the Party.

"Together, we're going to do big things in 2008," he told the crowd.

Ms. Dannie Montgomery of Anson County was elected First Vice Chair of the Party. Montgomery served as Chair of the Larry Kissell for Congress campaign and will succeed outgoing First Vice Chair Rep. Beverly Earle.

Mr. Delmas Parker of Forsyth County was re-elected Second Vice Chair and Mr. Courtney Crowder of Wake County was re-elected Third Vice Chair. Mr. Roy Lucas of Pitt County was elected Secretary. He will succeed Ann Huggins.

Approximately 500 State Executive Committee members attended the meeting at Elon University, including Lt. Governor Beverly Perdue, Congressman Brad Miller, and numerous members of the North Carolina General Assembly.
