The Army Times: "Rumsfeld Must Go."
Bush: Rumsfeld Will Stay
Elizabeth Dole: Today--"I stand by Donald Rumsfeld"
Robin Hayes: In 2004--Rumsfeld's Doing "A fabulous job." Now: ?
"Does Robin Hayes support Donald Rumsfeld? Does he stand for victory in Iraq or does he stand with the failed 'stay the course' strategy? As the Army Times said, 'although the blame for our failures in Iraq rests with the secretary, it will be the troops who bear its brunt.' Today, we learned that Elizabeth Dole supports Rumsfeld's failed policies and wants him to stay," said North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Jerry Meek. "Too many families in Robin Hayes' district deserve answers. When your district is home to a key military base, you have to shoot straight with both the soldiers and their families. It's time for a new direction; victory in Iraq begins with firing Donald Rumsfeld."
"Rumsfeld has lost credibility with the uniformed leadership, with the troops, with Congress and with the public at large. His strategy has failed, and his ability to lead is compromised. And although the blame for our failures in Iraq rests with the secretary, it will be the troops who bear its brunt.
This is not about the midterm elections. Regardless of which party wins Nov. 7, the time has come, Mr. President, to face the hard bruising truth:
Donald Rumsfeld must go."
