The North Carolina Democratic Party launched today a text messaging program that helps voters find their early voting site.

Here’s how it works: Voters text the word “EARLY” and the name of their county to #69866. (example: EARLY WAKE)

Voters will get an immediate answer or a response asking for more information, such as their zip code to narrow the search.

“Our text messaging program provides voters with an easy and convenient way to get information about their polling site,” said NCDP Chairman Jerry Meek. “We’re expecting record voter turnout this year and informing voters about what their options are literally puts the power of democracy in their hands.”

North Carolina is the first state in the nation to introduce this technology specifically for early voting sites.

An estimated 214,000 voters across the state cast their ballot in the first two days of early voting.
