Demand the Senate take a stand against voter suppression.
Hans von Spakovsky has made a career out of suppressing the vote of minorities, most recently at the Department of Justice (DOJ). Under Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez, von Spakovsky led the charge to turn the DOJ into an agency that undermines voting rights instead of protecting them.
Now Bush wants von Spakovsky to be confirmed for a seat on the Federal Election Commission (FEC), the agency in charge of enforcing election finance laws. It's an insult to Blacks, other minorities, and all who are struggling to maintain fair access to our democracy.
Republicans Oppose Promising Stem Cell Legislation
Today, with one stroke of his veto pen, President Bush denied hope to North Carolinians and millions of other Americans by vetoing critical legislation to expand federal funding of stem cells.
Respected scientists have confirmed that embryonic stem cell research holds the most promise of helping to cure debilitating diseases like Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, diabetes and Parkinson’s. Yet, the President and Bush Republicans in Congress are determined to put their ideology above compassion for Americans who are suffering.
The Administration's Middle East policy is Creating More Terrorist Havens
As a result of the Bush Administration's ineffective Middle East policies, America is less secure. The nation's 16 intelligence agencies concluded that Iraq has become a "cause celebre" for Jihadists. On the Afghan/Pakistan border Al Qaeda continues to operate with impunity. In Lebanon, an Al Qaeda inspired extremist group that includes many fighters who learned their trade by attacking American troops in Iraq, are now in a battle with Lebanese forces. And now, thanks in part to the lack of American leadership or engagement on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Gaza is under the control of Hamas. Rather than keeping America secure, the Administration's policies have contributed significantly to chaos in the region and sparked terrorist activities where none previously exist.
President Bush’s approval rating sunk to 29 percent, putting him at an all-time low, according to a Wall St. Journal-NBC News poll released Thursday.
Bush’s approval rating is down six points since April. Even his favorability factor has plummeted to just 32 percent, another all-time low for a president who banks on his personality to sell flawed policies.
In fact, 68 percent of those polled said the country is on the wrong track.
Four years after declaring "mission accomplished", President Bush vetoed legislation that fully funds our troops and holds Iraqis accountable for securing their nation.
Seventy percent of North Carolinians disapprove of the way the president is handling the Iraq War, according to a recent Elon University poll.
Gas, Tuition, and Prescription Medicine: you name it, Dole and Bush have made it more expensive.
Dole and Bush have made it more difficult for young people go to college. Just today the Washington Post reported that the Bush administration killed a proposal to clamp down on the student loan industry six years ago. This following allegations that companies sought to shower universities with financial favors to help generate business, according to documents and interviews with government officials.
Bush, Dole, and their energy friends will let Americans feel the pain this summer with constantly rising gas prices. With no end in sight it is time to make a change in America's energy policy.
The Bush Part D is a special interest law that Dole supported. It was written by and for the drug and insurance companies, and prohibits Medicare from negotiating for the lowest possible drug prices for seniors. This plan is costly, complicated, corrupt and denies seniors the choice of a prescription drug benefit directly from Medicare. Part D must be fixed to put seniors first, not drug and insurance companies.
Bush's approval rating plunges further in N.C.
Fewer North Carolinians than ever approve of how President Bush is doing his job, including his handling of the economy and the Iraq war, according to a new poll from Elon University.
