NCDP Secretary Kathy Knight
Kathy has served the Halifax County Democratic Party as an officer (2nd and 1st Vice Chair) since 2003, from 2006 until her election at the January 2009 State Executive Committee meeting, she served as County Chair.
Kathy's goal is to help carry out the Plan at State level as well as to insure that the Platform remains relevant. As Secretary, she will help ensure that communication with Democrats in communities across our state is effective and reciprocal. The growth of our Party depends on Democrats across the spectrum being a part of the process. We are a Party of inclusion and Kathy will help maintain a balance on the Executive Committee. Kathy holds a BSW from the ECU School of Social Work. Her education and training as a Generalist Social Worker have prepared her to look at “the big picture” and to view the effect of policies on institutions and systems , as well as individuals. Kathy's experience includes over twenty years working in Halifax county with families regarding welfare reform, health, Domestic Violence /Sexual Assault, education, mental health and HIV as well as advocating at state level. Kathy is married to Carleton Knight and they have six adult children and five grandchildren
