House Appropriations Committee to hold budget public hearing
Community colleges to host videoconferencing sites
RALEIGH, N.C. _ The Appropriations Committee of the North Carolina House of Representatives will hold a public hearing on Monday, May 24, to receive comments about the state budget.
The hearing will be held from 7-10 p.m. at the McKimmon Center on the campus of North Carolina State University. Three community colleges across the state will host interactive broadcasts of the hearing and it will also be streamed live on the Internet.
Committee members would like to invite members of the public to offer suggestions and comments about the budget. Each speaker will have up to two minutes to share information. Email comments concerning the budget may be sent to town.hall@ncleg.net up to midnight of May 25. Written comments postmarked by May 25 may be sent to House Appropriations Committee, Suite 401, Legislative Office Building, 300 N. Salisbury Street, Raleigh, NC, 27603-5925. Central Piedmont Community College, Charlotte
Southwestern Community College, Sylva

GUIDELINES FOR SPEAKERS
1. Each speaker shall register by giving his or her full name, place of residence, and telephone number; and, shall indicate whether they are speaking individually or for an interest group. Sergeants-at-Arms will handle registration at the McKimmon Center and site monitors will handle registration at the remote locations.
2. Each speaker may comment for up to two minutes.
3. Each speaker shall state his or her name at the beginning of their comments. If the speaker is affiliated with a group on whose behalf the participant is speaking, the participant shall identify that group at that time.
4. Each speaker shall limit his or her comments to matters directly related to the State budget. Speakers shall not engage in abusive conduct, or make defamatory statements.
5. Members of the audience, and each speaker, must respect the views of others and should refrain from demonstrating agreement or disagreement with speakers and with other members of the audience.
6. Written comments may be submitted electronically until midnight. Mailed comments will be accepted if postmarked by 5/25/2010.
