WAKE COUNTY'S VALENTINE CELEBRATION
The three Democrats who have announced for Governor will make their first joint appearance at the Wake County Democratic Party's 32nd Annual Valentine Celebration at 5:30PM, February 17th at the NCAE Building, 700 South Salisburg Street in Raleigh. Walter Dalton, Bob Etheridge, and Bill Faison will address the large crowd that is expected. Nancy and Glen Looper will be honored as the "Sweethearts Of The Year." The "Mentor Of The Year Award" will be presented to Sig Hutchinson. 80% of the Wake County Party's budget is raised at this event each year. DUPLIN'S LEGENDARY "MEET THE CANDIDATE CAKE AUCTION"
Duplin County Chair Dr. Mott Blair has announced that Duplin County's famous "Meet The Candidate Cake Auction" will be staged at 6PM, April 27th at James Kenan High School at 1241 Hwy 24, Warsaw. During every election since 1978 candidates from across the state have brought cakes decorated to showcase their campaign to this happy event. Every candidate wants their cakes to be bid at a higher price than their opponent's cake. Over the years cakes have brought from $100 to $800 each.
FORSYTH COUNTY
Forsyth County Chair Susan Campbell welcomed 400 Democrats to the February 11th Winter Ball which she described as "a glorious evening full of inspiring speeches, fellowship, and enthusiasm." Congressman Keith Ellison of Minnesota challenged the crowd to "Show Up, Put Up, and Speak Up" to win in November. State Party Chair David Parker gave a rousing speech. In addition to staging a successful Party-building event, the County Party raised over $17,000. Among the Democratic stars filling Winston-Salem's Millennium Center were June Atkinson, Elaine Marshall, Wayne Goodwin, Janet Cowell, Jay Parmley, Mel Watt, Bob Etheridge, and Bill Faison.
BUNCOMBE COUNTY
Buncombe Democratic Women will hear speeches from the three announced candidates for Congress in the 10th District at their February 16th meeting at the County Headquarters. DW President JoAnn Morgan will welcome State Representative Patsy Keever, Timothy Murphy, and Mayor Terry Bellamy. Over 80 people attended the DW's January meeting and the club has now grown to 84 members. The meal is only $10.
CHATHAM COUNTY DRAWING
County Chair Randy Voller says that one lucky Chatham Democrat's name will be drawn for a 7-day vacation at one of 4,000 RCI condominiums. Tickets are $20. Only 600 tickets are available for this drawing. The drawing will take place at the April 14th County Convention.
GUILFORD COUNTY
Guilford Senior Dems President, Dr. Terry Mitchell, has announced that Secretary of State Elaine Marshall will be the featured speaker at the club's Membership Party and Lunch at 10AM, February 25th at the County Party Headquarters.
ALAMANCE COUNTY
One of the most amazing Democrats at the Sanford Hunt Frye Dinner in Greensboro was Alamance County artist Amos Stokes whose pen name is "Sadat." His paintings of Gov. Perdue, President Obama, and Senator Hagen were on display. These pictures show Sadat with Gov. Perdue and Sen. Hagan.
MECKLENBURG COUNTY
DNC Member Pat Cotham and lots of Mecklenburg Democrats will welcome Judge Sam J. Ervin IV as the Keynote Speaker at the February 16th Uptown Democratic Forum at the Levine Museum of the New South. Judge Ervin is a candidate for the State Supreme Court. Tickets are only $10.

Everyone can find information about Judge Ervin's campaign for the NC Supreme Court at www.ErvinForSupremeCourt.com. At the SEC meeting in Greensboro many people were asking Judge Ervin: "Can you start next week?"
HENDERSON COUNTY
An interview with new County Chair Shelly Kingsley was featured in the February 8th edition of the "Hendersonville Times News" which is the county's major newspaper. The reporter wrote that Shelly's "passion lies in promoting a party that she believes is all about helping people." Shelly is quoted as stating that "the health care reform law is a very good thing" and that "the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that the President just started is going to keep financial companies from taking advantage of people." She proclaimed that "Democrats are really behind President Obama" and "North Carolina will be blue again."
ROWAN TEEN DEMS ORGANIZE
State Teen Dems First Vice Chair Blaike Bibbs of Chatham County met with Rowan County teenagers to organize a Teen Dems Club. They elected the following Officers:
- President - Emma Labovitz
- Vice President - Anna Harrell
- Secretary & Social Media - Evan Dunn
- Treasurer - Jeffery Burton
- Middle School Liaison - Liam Harrell
- Page - Joseph Earl Levy
- Advisor - Bonnie Harrell
The Teens are going to swing into action by registering teens who can vote in the May, 2012 Primary. They are also going to focus on talking to middle school and high school students about the importance of voting as it relates to education. State Teen Dems President Vibhav Kollu and State Young Democrats President Sam Spencer met with the Rowan teens in January and helped them participate in a web call with Organizing For America.
NASH COUNTY
Nash County Chair Charlotte Mizelle and her husband, Wayne, welcomed a house full of people to their Rocky Mount home for a fundraiser for Secretary of State Elaine Marshall on February 2nd. Charlotte's heart problems motivated her to step down from the County Chair's position on February 6th. First Vice Chair Lee Michaletz will serve as Acting Chair until a new Chair is elected.
FORSYTH COUNTY
Forsyth Democratic Women are initiating a monthly "Women and Wine Series" at The District Restaurant, 770 Liberty View Court in Winston-Salem. The first meeting at 6PM, February 23rd will discuss "Women's Rights, Your Body, Your Womb." One of the speakers will be Micki Metcher of Forsyth County Women Wise Program.
ORANGE COUNTY
County Chair Matt Hughes and First Vice Chair Connie Mullinix invite everyone to the first "Open House" at their new headquarters at 2PM-4PM, Saturday, February 25th. The headquarters is located at 209 Lloyd Street, Suite 310, Carrboro.
