While McCrory Digs in on HB2, Is Governor’s Office Following the Law?

CBS News reports governor’s office directed male reporters to women’s bathroom in Governor’s mansion

RALEIGH, N.C. – This week, Governor McCrory tripled down on his discriminatory law, HB2, entering a heated legal battle with the US Department of Justice over the right to discriminate against the LGBT community. HB2 allows broad discrimination against LGBT North Carolinians and has been met with fierce opposition by the business community across the nation.

But in countless interviews, the governor has kept his talking points laser-focused on bathrooms, describing his feelings of insecurity in public restrooms, referring to the “sanctity” of the restroom, and vowing to defend his law to keep men and women’s restrooms separate.

The problem? According to CBS News, the governor’s own office isn’t even following the law:

CBS News Correspondent Omar Villafranca:

“While covering the governor’s press conference yesterday inside the Governor’s Mansion, I asked to use the restroom and the staff directed me to the only restroom that was made available to the press: it was the ladies room.”

“Want proof that HB2 is just about divisive politics? Governor McCrory isn’t even following the law that he’s risking our entire economy over. It’s time to repeal HB2, protect our schools and economy, and repair our state’s reputation,” said NCDP spokesman Dave Miranda.
